Every year thousands of people buy membership to fitness clubs, hoping that trainers will help them create the figure of their dreams. But most new clients don’t show up at the gym in a month. The idea of a home gym may seem like an unattainable luxury. However, if you have some unused space in your apartment, you can create a place to exercise there. Of course, everything depends on a well-thought-out layout, from creative storage solutions to optical illusions that will visually enhance the fitness space. We’ve prepared a home gym layout planner for newbies. Use it to find the best options for home gym.
Floor
First of all, it is worth figuring out what kind of flooring would be the best option for sports activities. Slippery tile or marble surfaces will not do. If you are planning to work out with dumbbells or barbells, make sure that the flooring was soundproof. Rubber mats, cork flooring or carpeting on a thick base are suitable for this purpose. It is not necessary to lay them on the entire surface of the floor, you can only do it where you work out. Thanks to these coatings you will protect the floor and provide your neighbors with silence and comfort.
Choose a place
If possible, allocate a separate room for working out. But since many people live in conditions of limited space, this is almost impossible. Don’t despair. Choose a free space in the apartment or clear a few meters for working out. For this purpose is ideal:
- living room;
- bedroom;
- loggia.
Using a tablet to schedule your workout
Use clipboards to display everything from your workout schedule for the day to inspirational quotes. Having a system like this where you can mark your accomplishments and create a workout program makes a huge difference when you’re working on a specific fitness goal. Inspirational quotes give you even more strength and energy on your way to achieving your dreams.
Using angles
When you’re working with limited space, every inch counts. Use corners efficiently. Use elastic cord and iron hooks to attach a fitness ball to the walls. Remember the straps we use to strap things to the roof rack? Oddly enough, they’d be perfect for hanging a ball, too. You can also put an elliptical trainer in the corner that won’t take up much space. Here you can install a railing with hooks. This option would be suitable for storing jump ropes, fitness bands or boxing gloves.
Mirrors
First and foremost, you’ll need them to keep track of proper exercise and, of course, your progress. Also, adding a few full-length mirrors will make a small space visually larger. Then your room will look even more like a gym. Large mirrors can be expensive, but the same effect can be achieved with small mirrors, only in larger quantities.
Vertical cabinets
If you have a loose wall in your home or are just thinking about how to furnish your room, don’t forget about vertical cabinets. To avoid taking up a lot of floor space and making you and other family members uncomfortable, store items in hanging furniture.
